Rocky Mountain National Park

Planning is underway for a solo traverse of Rocky Mountain National Park in summer 2025. Permit applications submitted. Maps studied. Gear list in progress.

The Rockies present a different challenge than the eastern parks — higher altitude, more exposed terrain, afternoon thunderstorms that are less a possibility and more a daily certainty above treeline.

I'm planning a route that takes in some of the high tundra above 11,000 feet, crosses at least one technical pass, and ends somewhere with a view I haven't earned yet.
