A Solo Backpacking Journey

Twenty-three miles, three days, alone on the Badlands' Sage Creek Loop, and the day-one wrong turn that nearly ended it. Not a survival epic, just an honest account of an ordinary backpacker testing his limits in an unforgiving place.

This one has nothing to do with product, and everything to do with the clarity I chase at work. It's the story of a single trip: three days and roughly twenty-three miles, alone, on the Sage Creek Wilderness Loop in the Badlands of South Dakota. Not a record-breaking feat or a survival manual, just an ordinary backpacker testing his limits in an unforgiving place.

What it's about

Why I wrote it

I missed the scale of the Himalayas after moving to the US, and I chose the Badlands precisely because it was harsh, unglamorous, and solitary, a landscape that demanded respect and rewarded preparation. I wanted to write about what happens when the plan breaks and you keep walking anyway.

"The trail doesn't care about your title. It only asks whether you can carry what you brought."
